AJ Pros Rainsuit

Rainsuit
Waterproof overall with PVC boots model: 104/k by A J Group, Poland

I bought this specially for watching the Wild & Woolly Link charity scramble and chose the bright blue "Opalo" material for a variety of reasons. Something both sturdy and warm (or at least windproof) is required as not only do carefully positioned spectators get REALLY muddy, but, held on Boxing Day, the weather is likely to be pretty cold. Strangely enough in 10 years of attending this event it hasn't actually rained; snow and hail sometimes but so far never rain!
Upon unpacking the outfit the sturdiness was revealed, the weight was in the item not the packing. The heat sealed seams and join to the boots looked totally secure, and the front was zipped with a poppered flap covering the zip. In spite of being designed for male wear (right hand flap and broader shoulder to waist / length ratio) the small size fitted me comfortably with room for a thick jumper underneath if necessary. Left picture. On the day, I felt really good strolling from the car to the event course, and with thick socks the boots were firm enough to be able to walk comfortably.
We positioned ourselves right next to one of the water crossings and the suit really came into its own. I could stand actually in the stream without getting numb feet and without worrying if the water would rise above welly level. When the race started, and mud and water were being flung about continuously I remained dry inside and the rainsuit repelled the onslaught efficiently whilst the brown mud showed up nicely on the blue colour. At this point I realised the suit doesn't have pockets and a handkerchief up the sleeve is not accessible! After the race I couldn't resist playing in the mud, and sadly this is where the rainsuit let me down. Right picture.
The poppered flap over the front zip is not sealed at the bottom so muddy water coming upwards is able to by pass the flap and soak in through the non waterproof zip underneath. This really means that in extreme conditions, the all-in-one is no better than chest waders. Also the elasticated wrists get soaked in no time; the problem here was that my waterproof gloves weren't large enough to fit over the rainsuit sleeves, but had they been they would have been too large for my hands!
Verdict: Really good for cold and wet conditions but not perfect for way out activities!
Note: I bought from UK distributor waterproofs4you.com who are no longer taking new orders.
However the Swedish distributor has some similar AJ Pros items in their online list. Link
