The Carrington

The Carrington
505 Wyndham Street, Shepparton, VIC, Australia
Typical Australian motel with reasonably provisioned but very gloomy rooms. No ventilation possible other than the air-con, and although in bright sunlight you can use just the day blind, as soon as it clouds over you need to draw the curtains or folk can see in. This makes it very claustrophobic. The bathroom is also sub-optimal. It's tiled throughout as a wet room but the shower drainage slope could do with being a bit steeper so the bath mat doesn't get soaked. In our room, (7), the shower head leaked out of the side, compounding the problem and wetting most of the bathroom. Toiletries and towels pretty good, but the housekeeping staff have been trained to tuck in the bedding even when it's a duvet, which is irritating. We got caught out by the room having a toaster and fridge so we bought food for breakfast (cost of approx $15 in the restaurant) only to find there were no plates or cutlery. Enquiry produced the answer that these items are provided only in the apartments not the rooms, but because we were ignorant foreigners we were given some.
However, after all those moans about the room, the restaurant was very good, with averagely priced above average food. Our steaks were cooked as requested and delivered promptly. Portions are large, and we decided to share a passion fruit crème brulee. It was plenty for 2!
Conclusion: I wouldn't want to stay and eat here for more than about a week, and was glad it is only a 10 minute walk from the town centre (only 5 mins from Aldi for shopping)
