You walk in and are hit by the lurid green décor. I found it gradually became more relaxing but Nick found it too glaring the whole time and thought it spoiled the ambiance. It proclaims on the door B.Y.O free, so we supplied our own wine, and were surprised to find we were the only folk drinking although a further 5 tables were occupied. The restaurant supplies carafes of chilled water, but other soft drinks are available to buy.
The menu took some reading, for whilst it was not huge, the dishes were described and arranged in a different style to what we are used. Also almost all the dishes are offered mild, medium or hot. After the day before when I had consumed only one "a-day" I was desperate for a salad, so chose the Crying Tiger Beef, at medium hotness with some coconut rice in case it was hotter than I expected. Nick also went for a medium Pad Thai, also with beef.
Both dishes were "Bangkok Medium" rather than western medium, so I was glad of my rice and Nick ate plenty of noodles. He was unimpressed with the Pad Thai, perhaps because it was not only hotter than to his taste, but also liberally sprinkled with chopped peanuts. In contrast, although hot, my beef salad was exactly what I wanted, and I would be happy to visit again. The B.Y.O made for an economical meal of $38 ex grat.
