Lathams, Bridge st, Potter Heigham, Great Yarmouth NR29 5JE
Lathams has reputation for being a cheap and tacky shop, catering for the tasteless needs of Norfolk Broads holidaymakers and folk looking indiscriminately for a "bargain" (as in picture from"visitnorwich website!). This is largely true, although it is not particularly cheap, but there are exceptions. We were looking for some meat to accompany the home grown potatoes we had bought from a garden stall, and this steak was almost the only meat left in the chiller cabinet. To our surprise it proved to be very good indeed - even as good as our local butcher sells. It was not tough and with very good flavour when fried in a little butter.
On the way back through Potter Heigham later in the week, we returned to purchase some more - which was just as good, proving the first piece wasn't a fluke.
Verdict: if you choose carefully you can find good food in unlikely places!
