Horsey Mill Shower

National Trust Shower

Horsey Windpump, Norfolk

No, this isn't a historic building; it's a fully functioning modern shower – but it is maintained and run by the National Trust! It is operated by a door code and tokens purchased from the NT stores, tearoom and shop on the staithe of the river Thurne, which is also where you purchase admission tickets for the windpump (currently undergoing restoration). Shower tokens are £2 each, but the water is so hot and runs for so long that we discovered two people could easily shower with one token, making it a bargain. The cubicle is nicely tiled and kept really clean, to the extent that they have removed the cork shower mat, which is more hygienic but rather chilly on the feet!. The loos adjacent are similarly well maintained but on their last refurbishment were fitted with vacuum flushes to be environmental, so beware of the loud bang when you press the button.

This shower together with the National Trust teacakes (also available from the kiosk); proximity of pleasant walks to the beach and the a convivial pub makes Horsey staithe a must for Broads sailors.
