Oxford Spires Hotel

We stayed here for two nights while attending a weekend conference. The first impressions are good: it is a low rise building on the edge of Oxford with sufficient, but not excessive car parking spaces, an easily identified leisure suite, a convenient drop off point and easy to find reception.

We were given a "standard double" room which was compact but adequate - our stay was 2 nights but we could have survived a week in our room. The down side of the low rise building soon became apparent. The corridors are ridiculously long; I'm sure our room was half way to Didcot!

The food is surprising good for a hotel, particularly as they were catering for a large group. We had to submit our dinner menu choices in advance of our arrival, but everyone received what they ordered, and the quality was well above average. The staff were sadly not up to the same standard, mixing up drinks orders or forgetting them completely at dinner and getting the refreshment break times of the conference wrong on a couple of occasions. The leisure centre was easy to use and open for decently long hours.

A really good feature of the hotel is its proximity and easy access to the Thames Path. It is about 15 minutes walk into central Oxford along the river past several rowing clubs, whose practice sessions provide entertainment en route.

Recommended.
