43 Upper St, London N1 0PN
A quick glance in the window indicated this is an upmarket takeaway sandwich bar serving Spanish ham baguettes, cones of chorizo and cheese and soft drinks. Closer inspection reveals a whole lot more than this. Firstly a whole row of various hams hanging up. Then there is seating - 2 tables for 4, 3 tables for 2 and 6 stools at the bar, and a short but effective tapas menu. We chose the Carrillada (beef stew) and Pulpo (traditional octopus and potatoes) to share between us, with house wine for each of us. With an additional glass of red for Nick and a coffee each the bill incl a 12.5%grat was a rather extravagant £44.74. However we were given a large dish of olives and plenty of nice bread, for which the service charge was actually very reasonable. Also the beef and octopus dishes were not only excellent , they were far from tapas - raciones at least.
We'll be back!
