The Torso in the Town

A Fethering Mystery (No.3)

Simon Brett

2002 McMillan London

Recommendation: previous books

A lot of suspension of disbelief required for this one. Like Simon Brett's other series, ( Charles Paris Link etc) the Fethering mysteries have plots of very variable quality and credibility. The lead characters are consistently fun, as you would expect from an author who has spent much of his career writing radio comedy, but many of the scenarios are poor. The naturally slower pace of reading means that inconsistencies and unlikelihoods that can be glossed over in a 30 minute radio episode niggle when committed to paper. The others I have read (Link, Link, Link) were better, so I won't give up on the series yet.
