Pennine Manor Hotel

Nettleton Hill Road, Huddersfield, HD7 4NH

A pleasant hotel conveniently close to junction 23 of the M62, with expansive views over the moorland and down onto Huddersfield. Beware if it is snowy though, access is via a small lane that is likely to be low priority for gritters.

As a Best Western loyalty card holder I was made very welcome but since I booked at very short notice there was only a small double room left. It was comfortable though, having a comparably small en-suite with a bath, adequate heating and a window that opened as much as we needed.

Breakfast was served in a different part of the restaurant from dinner, and was cooked to order efficiently, with kippers and smoked haddock available as well as the traditional English. Fruit, yoghurt and cereals were self service, although it was unclear whether you were supposed to make your own toast or let the staff do it for you.

The dinner menu was good, and not unduly expensive, which was just as well because apart from a pub and another hotel in the village on the other side of the motorway there is nowhere else to eat. I enjoyed pea and mushroom risotto while Nick .played safe with a steak.
