18 Chapel Market, Islington, London N1 9EZ
On a Friday night most of the restaurants on Upper Street are so well patronised they don't accept bookings (at least the two we tried didn't). Mangia Bene is a plain and straightforward Italian restaurant, a little off the main drag on Chapel Market.
While still very popular - full by 8pm, we were able to book a table for 7.15 without a problem. Service was prompt and helpful. Nick and S shared a bottle of Chianti while I enjoyed 2 glasses of house white wine.
S chose salmon fettuccine, and Nick seafood risotto, but after sharing a mixed antipasti for 2 between the three of us, I decided that the aubergine parmigiana, listed as a starter would be enough for me. I was right, although I still had enough space to help Nick out with a couple of prawns and a few clams! Our bill was £75 and we were given digestifs of Limoncello while the bill was being calculated. Recommended.
