Although I can't help thinking of Dirk Bogarde as an actor not a writer, this was not at all bad. There was a mystery involved and I didn't get tempted half way through to jump to the last page to check if it was worth continuing. William, the main character is lured to France by a mysterious letter received from his estranged younger brother. Although he makes some stupid decisions (but then most of Sue Grafton's plots rely on Kinsey Milhone making stupid decisions, e.g. Link), the interest is kept throughout and there are some good descriptions and some thought provoking passages.
