The Empty House

Rosamunde Pilcher 1973 Coronet (1990) London

It's a very long time since I have read Rosamunde Pilcher – probably not since shortly after she was “discovered” with “The Shell Seekers”. This was a very light read, more of a novella (180 pages) which I finished in one sitting. A lovely story, set in Cornwall, but with characters stereotyped and rather predictable. The only character I wanted to know more about was peripheral; Alice a friend of both the heroine, Virginia and her mother.
