Booked on a late room deal, at £59 room only, this was the cheapest hotel close to Gatwick airport available for the night we needed. The room only deal was fine since we had an early check in time, and although not quite on the doorstep a free shuttle bus service is offered (First come, first served) which is booked when checking in. I didn't discover until later that if you book online you can get meals cheaper by pre booking those too. This is a worthwhile saving (£2 per head for breakfast and £4 for dinner) if you know you will arrive during restaurant hours and/or want breakfast. For a fixed price of £14.50 a self service 3 course carvery is offered, with a choice of 2 joints and various other entrees. There was only one type of soup and one gateau , but the both the beef and ham proved to be tastier than they looked and the vegetables had not suffered from being kept warm. The soup however, was packeted catering special, and the salad which I had instead was limited – there wasn't even any lettuce. I couldn't face the strawberry gateau, but Nick was contented enough. The meal was definitely improved by the free bottle of wine which was offered with the room, but should you need to pay for drinks this has to been transacted separately from the food bill which is a nuisance, even if you have authorised charges to your bill and received a blue stamp on your key card.

The whole hotel is styled with the Mediterranean in mind and has a pleasant patio and courtyard areas with plenty of seating. The rooms are currently being refurbished, so our room looked smart and smelled faintly of paint, but lack of a security chain on a large ground floor window meant we couldn't leave it open overnight to get any fresh air.
